I have a courtyard that has been left as a gravel garden by the builders. It is in an area of farmland and so would have had some organic matter underneith the gravel, membrane and then builder's sand. I have cleared an area to plant quite a large bed and having dug down, removed some boulders, there is still a quantity of builder's sand at the bottom - about 6" - 8". I have home grown compost to dig in and then shop bought compost. The level of total compost on top will be about two feet.

Will this be a problem for growing plants?

Hopefully, not... Thanks,Deborah
