Can anyone identify my new fungus?

I've got a new fungus, never seen it before. Looks like a worn out old bristle brush. It's growing under laurels on the patch where the shreddings go so there could be bits of anything that grows here. Any ideas?

The only one I know which looks anything like that is "Lion's Mane", but that grows on logs.  As you probably realise, it's fiendishly difficult to positively identify fungi, even with several good illustrated books in front of you (and those give you the best possible chance.)  It actually looks a bit like some lichens.

There's a genus of fungi called Ramaria, Coral fungus, because they look like coral, which this does.

There are many species. Could be Ramaria Stricta...

Or possibly Ramara Fennica...

But they do not usually produce the fruiting bodies at this time of year.

So, could be something completely different.

I thought perhaps one of the ramarias Lyon but was put off by the time of year. R.stricta comes in winter but my book (Roger Phillips ) says strong smell which it hasn't. Looks more like yout pic of R. fennica but that's not in the book.

I don't think it's the hericum Bob,doesn't look right but I wouldn't be put off by the growing on logs as it's growing on shredded logs

I've spent hours over the years with the book and various fungi. Nothing ever quite matches up. Many thanks for your suggestions. I'll work on both with more googling.
