Companions in the wildlife garden

Siberian winds today but the fox braved the cold to visit my snowdrops.

Your Snowdrops are just lovely happymarion and your fox. We have quite a lot of foxes here in Bournemouth, we often hear them outside at night in the road and I always have to get up to look out of the window, they are lovely to see. I'm waiting for some Snowdrops to arrive in the post and these will be the first I've ever had so looking forward to seeing them in flower next year.

Its been freezing cold here today and I have had to defrost the bird bath several times. With all this freezing weather I thought a picture of summer would warm us up. This was my front garden last summer. 

OH, that does - warm me up, I mean.  I planted my snowdrops in clumps of three or four together and they thrived and now every year after flowering I am dividing lrge clumps. I get great fun fromlooking for different forms as well as I have several species and they ae very promiscuous Here is a picture of some of my taller species.

My Snowdrops have arrived and now the ground is far too frozen to get them in. They are in the green so I'm keeping them watered and they should be ok to go in as soon as freezing weather goes away. I've got just 20 to start me off and if mine end up looking like yours happymarion I will be very pleased.

The snowdrops really have snow now in Bristol and the wood pigeons are pinching the biscuit crumbs meant for my robin.

We don't have any snow here in Bournemouth (yet), its raining. I've been watching the birds today and making sure they have plenty to eat and drink and it has been really entertaining. There has been one Blackbird that is hogging the food, as you can see in the picture he sits guard over it and he has been fighting Starlings, Robins, Blue Tits, any bird that goes near he will try and keep them away. What a bully. He didn't fight a pigeon that came down to feed though, I suppose there are limits even for a Blackbird.

I have a lot of wildlife too in my area which is Bristol.Not only foxes,badgers,squirrels,rats,mice,frogs,newts the list could go on including deer! The birds we get are amazing even Herons and buzzards.For a city its pretty amazing how it all survives.I lived in the country and I did not see half as much.I still go to the country every week and on horseback I get close to the deer and their young as they don't see  me as threat.We need all wildlife,we are the intruders ,not them.I find great joy from watching those special moments.
