I feel sad for the greys - they didn't ask to be brought here from America -

humans shouldn't take it upon themselves to do things like that and then

we wouldn't have  had to have this cruel slaughter of the greys just to reinstate

the reds.

Diddydoit

I have just had news that the greys are fighting back flowersforbees.

Well done Diddydoit - how and where on earth did you get that pic?

Only place I ever saw black ones was when I lived in Canada.  One used to

knock on my back door for biscuits every morning bless him!

Oh dear addict, that isn't my sort of squirrel, almost wish I hadn't told you how to do it. Squirrels are living creatures, as we are, and humans have done far more harm to the world and to their own kind than squirrels. They can't help it that we brought them here and conditions turned out to be so right for them to multiply. It was the fault of humans in the first place.

Diddydoit

I quite agree with you busy lizzie, however it still remains a problem that "us humans" have caused and it doe's need tackling to save our own native species.

Busy are you vegetarian? I eat rabbit, venison, pheasant, pigeon and freshly caught river fish. I know how old my meat is and that it is exactly what it looks like. No hidden horse...not that I have a problem with eating horse...just not sick horse!

Addict, not quite sure if you miss seeing hares running about or miss having hare pie.

Up 'ere we have lots of hares. You can see them every day in the fields. Unfortunately, they aren't too bright (hare-brained?) and they get run over quite a lot.

Whilst it would be nice to re-establish the Red Squirrel I think we must accept it is not possible and we should protect those we still have. I don't see any reason to cull greys or any point in doing so. We don't have reds in our area so I enjoy the greys and limit damage by feeding them. Very cute and entertaining

Cheers

I don,t know if this is any use but i think i may have found a way of keeping them off my feeders.I get the fat from my grill tray and rub it all over my feeder frame and after my main squirrel went flying he now sticks to munching about on the floor and most  of his mates don,t bother coming any more.it,s been about a month now.I do fed them elsewhere in the garden as i don,t like to see any animals go hungry.i,m just a softy really.

Miss seeing them. Think I've seen maybe 3 in the last 5 years
