What should I do with the frog under my floor?
Hello,
I hope somebody can give us some advice. We noticed the sound of a frog coming from under our floor by our back door recently. It would come and go so recently I made it easy to remove floorboard around where the sound was coming from.
Yesterday, I heard the frog and carefully lifted the floor to see him croaking away. We have loads of them in the garden and have encouraged them a with a little pond and wildlife corner to the garden. we like that they are a natural pest killer. The chap under the floor looked healthily and well fed. But what would you do? Should we move him back outside? It's now really cold outside with frost each night. All the outdoor frogs seem to have disapeared I guess they are all tucked up for winter. So in or out?

He is probably going to bed down for the winter. Outside he may freeze unless you can provide him with a suitable habitat.
Yes, leave her alone - she's found a place that she considers suitable to spend the winter - or at least the current cold snap. I think it's a female - I remember reading somewhere that it's the males that spend the winter in the mud at the bottom of the ponds, and the females that find sheltered spots 'on dry land'. I suggest that Esmeralda is a suitable name
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Here she is!
Looks cozy to me. Perfect frog space. My greenhouse is like Frogadilly Circus at the moment - at least a dozen females all happy in the humidity. If you want to help, place a bowl of water down there to keep up the humidity, but she should be fine and will move if it's not suitable.
PS. Frogs actually don't hibernate as such, they can often be found foraging on milder winter evenings, so quite natural that you hear the croaking.

Nice poem Edd I'd leave well alone, putting the frog back outside would encourage her to use up valuable energy searching for somewhere else. I like to create a heap of prunings, grass clippings etc for them to shelter in
