Nitrogen-fixing bacteria

The bacteria on the roots of leguminous vegetables, or the micro-organisms found in soil, which convert atmospheric nitrogen into nitrogen compounds that can be used by plants.

Node

The point on a stem from which a leaf or leaves arise.

Nut

A dry fruit, with one seed enclosed in a hard shell (endocarp). Nuts are indehiscent.

Nymph

The larval form of certain insects, such as the grasshopper.
