Some pots cry out for a simple planting scheme that doesn't detract from their own beauty, for which this arrangement is perfect. The bamboo combines beautifully with the dark brown-bronze leaves of the red hook sedge to form a sleek display that would look great in any garden all year round.

You will need

  • Bamboo, Fargesia rufa x3
  • Red hook sedge, Uncinia rubra
  • Tall black planter or other modern pot
  • Multi-purpose, peat-free compost


Plant the bamboo as the centrepiece of this display and arrange the sedge around its base to form a gentle, soft carpet. Make sure you position the pot in a sheltered spot to avoid cold winds damaging the plants.
