How to sow broad beans in autumn

Autumn sowing broad beans in pots is a useful option if you struggle with winter wet. Monty Don explains how in this video clip.

Do it:

Oct, Nov

Monty Don explains how he collected his own broad bean seeds in summer, from the variety 'Crimson Flowered', in this programme clip from Gardeners' World. He then shows you how to sow them into pots to germinate and grow undercover through autumn and winter, for planting out in spring. This protects the seeds from hungry mice, and from rotting in the cold damp conditions at Longmeadow over winter. So if you face either of these issues, this method is for you!
