It would be useful for nervous gardeners (like me) to have an idea of the names of plants that can be pruned in this fashion.

I have viburnum tinus in my garden. I bought it &planted it 4 seasons ago & it's hardly grown & has never flowered. I have grown the same species previously in the same spot & had to replace it as it grew too big! Argh! Where did I go wrong please?
