How to...

sow foxglove seeds

Foxglove seeds being collected

You will need:

  • Foxglove seedheads
  • Compost

Overview

Seeds sown fresh from foxglove pods will germinate quickly. Collect seed in your hand from the seedpods as soon as they begin to turn brown, to sow where you want them. The foxglove seedlings will appear in a matter of weeks and can be grown on to plant out in the autumn, ready to flower next year.

How to do it

  1. Prepare a seedbed or lightly fork the soil where you want the foxgloves to grow. Add a little multi-purpose compost to improve the soil and sow the seed you've collected. Alternatively sow it on the surface of a pot of compost and place in a coldframe or a sheltered position in the garden.

Adam's Tip

Adam's Tip

"If sowing the foxglove seeds in pots, little coverage is required and simply knocking pots on a bench usually settles the tiny seeds sufficiently into place."
