Wilting Beetroot Leaves

Posted: 25/07/2014 at 16:53

Despite my initial panic, they're not looking too bad now. I've been watering them everyday and apart from being knocked over (either by my Dad or the window cleaner, not sure which!), they seem to be doing ok. Fingers crossed

I went to a big garden centre yesterday and I was incensed to see their one and only sweet pea plant in a pot looking severely neglected! Poor sweet pea.

Wilting Beetroot Leaves

For the first time I am attempting to grow beetroot - nothing too big, just in a few pots. The largest one has been doing ok but I have noticed that one or two leaves are starting to wilt. They start by going partially limp and then go altogether. There are some healthy leaves left and there is a new leaf growing in the centre. I'm keeping it outside but in partial shade and am watering it often. Is this something to be concerned about?

I'll get my Dad to dispose of them tomorrow - at least I'll get the bucket back!

Eep, wasn't expecting that! Should I get rid of them or just leave them be?

A bucket in our garden that had various debris filled up with rainwater and is now the current residence of what I presume are insect offspring. Does anybody know what they are?

Just read that back - I meant to stop the SPs getting too tall, not people themselves.

Hi David - I mean the very top of the plant, where the tendrils first form between a pair of leaves. Might not be much clearer .   Basically I was just wondering if people ever have a problem with them getting too tall and what they do about it.

My sweet peas are thriving -  I have put in 2m canes but some of the main stems are now outgrowing these! Would it do any damage if I nipped out the bit where the tendrils grow? Its my first time growing them; when my grandma told me how well their sweet peas were growing last year, I actually thought that she was talking about a vegetable....
