Why are my Conifers dying from the bottom up

Posted: 07/08/2014 at 21:19

Hi everyone thank you all for your comments, your right Bamboogie they were bought as leylandii. I'm afraid i haven't looked to see if there are any aphids i'll check tomorrow if there are signs of aphids can you suggest any treatment i can use please? The soil around the bottom of the trees has only recently been placed there we had to move some excess soil from the back garden so i was just going to try build up a little bank behind the trees.

Thanks for the advice I have watered them a little in this dry spell but obviously not sufficient so I will make sure they get a good drink on a regular basis do you think I should pop some liquid fertilizer on too?

 Hi Everyone,

Just another quick question on the forum. I have planted these conifers approx 2/3yrs ago and for the first and second season they grew quite happily but now as you can see they seem to be dying from the ground up. Can anyone shed any light on this for me please? Ive heard there's supposed to be some sort of disease affecting conifers do my conifers look like they have this disease?

Many thanks for any advice.

Can Cordylines be split?

Thanks Bamboogie, Philippa and everyone glad that's cleared up ha. Verdun from what you say about controlling your cordyline do you have it in a large pot or are they in the ground? I think I would like to leave them as they are and just enjoy them as was suggested by Philippa but will they become pot bound if just left in an enclosed pot?

Hi Thanks everyone for your advice but now I'm a little confused can anyone tell by looking at my photo whether mine is a phormium or a coryline please?

Hi Philippa, thanks for your reply I will check that tomorrow.

If I were just to leave them as they are will they eventually become pot bound and die off though?

Hi I had a cordyline in a large tub but a few years ago when we had that very long and exceptional cold winter the coryline died off. I cut the plant down to a stump but over the years it has regrown this time from the roots I think. There now seems to be 4 plants growing in the same big pot. Is it possible to split them without killing them or should I just leave them? .

I have taken a photograph to give a better idea of my problem. I would be grateful for any advice.

Brown patches on my conifer

Posted: 15/05/2013 at 10:40

Hi, thanks for your replay Verdun to be honest I'm not 100% sure if a fox or a cat could be spraying. Although it is a possibility we do tend to get some cats in the garden they come to stalk the bird table I always shoo them off when I see them though. Is there any sprays you might know of to keep cats away?

Also thank you to your reply Artjak, No the tree is quite sheltered so couldn't suffer from any wind damage.

Hi, can anyone help please? I have a golden leylandi conifer and it is starting to go brown at the bottom of the tree on one side only. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this might be happening? I would very much appreciate any advice anyone might have. Thank you
