Love dahlias, my cuttings rooted easily this spring, i managed to pot on 357 self collected seed for my parents and they have an incredible mixed show. Def a must for next Year. Do cheap when you save tubers or set your own seed. I hope I keep my mini dahlia and we bought a new red one this year I am in love with, I hope I keep it through the winter. See pictures...

Revitalise spent compost - how??

Hi all I am thinking ahead for next year.... This year I had tubs with potato, some French beans, carrots, tomato.

what I need to know is how to revitalise this for next year???? The carot bed was a big cement tub 4ft x2ft by 2.5ft deep. This was spent compost, new compost and sand. I dont really want to waste this mix especially as the sand sealant cheap. What should I do??

the beans, potato and soon I will have tomato spent, how can I revitalise???

I seem to get blight so before I hachange ce I chopped off my tops and left the tatties In the ground blight didn't hit us this year!!! Yay!!! I would burn or bin tops and keep compost away from veg or tomatoes. I try not to water my tops I water soil to stop the humidity issue that people says brings on blight!!

All sowed recently. Lupins showing signs of second leaf, pansies will be ready to prick in a week. Nothing else has germinated yet As they were sown on day of the post. My grand ideas are bigger than my 5ft x3ft plastic greenhouse!!!

i have cuttings and baby plants of more astrantia, fuschia, gayser, lythrum, scabious, coreopsis too. Hope they will overwinter as baby plants!!!

In my pop up greenhouse I now have seed trays of

verbena rigida

coreopsis sunrise

Green wizard rudbeckia

scabiosa Beaujolais bbonnets

and poss something else. Am

i mad to sow now, I was bored and I love pottering. I had deadheaded, weeded and edged and with nothing left I hit the 2012 collected seeds. Will I regret my actions or love it. Bearing in mind I have cuttings on the go and 3 trays of pansies germinated. (Looking like a green carpet but only seed leaves not true leaf yet!!)

If the tuber is squashy next year then don't set it. Just keep frost free and dark. Then pray they make it through!
