I bought 2 from Cornwall holiday (which turned into being a Cornwall tour of gardens and garden centres!!!! Ooops at 32 stone would say it should have been beaches and bars) they are called dahlia gallery Rivera. They have flowered their hearts out. I hope they are fertile and I can keep them through the winter!
I only ask as my tiny dahlia had tiny tiny seeds and I sowed 2 trays and nothing at all, nothing!!!
my new red ones I so hope are fertile but normally they close into a cone shape, these remain looking like pineapple tops?? Heard this before??
Think the carrot sandy mix will be bagged up over winter and used for potatos when I have added some fish and bone stuff I bought today.
the beans compost will go for next years carrots.
the potato and tomato will mulch round my beds?? How does that sound? Anything that is left I will add more new compost to and use for French beans.
I found some 3" pots so now have 32 lupins in those. Operation pansies on Monday when I have gathered some modular pots from friends and family.
Is there an easy way of telling if your dahlia seed from bought plants will be fertile??
Mine was planted in June and no flowers yet but there are buds. My farther leaves his but I have noticed he only gets the one flush of flowers with this method, a waste I think!! I will def leave the last few flowers when I get them hoping for some self down gems
Lupins are due to be potted up tomorrow, I have about 30 and I'm wondering what size pots to overwinter, any ideas.
Also my pansies have true leaves so they are going to be potted for winter, what size pots???
Thanks verdun. Yes only carrots and they did Well and didn't suffer with pests. I really hoped I could use this for my carrots again but maybe not you think??
I know I want potatos carrots tomato and climbing French beans in tubs next year. Can any of those go back into this compost if I mix together and fertilise with ??????
Love dahlias, my cuttings rooted easily this spring, i managed to pot on 357 self collected seed for my parents and they have an incredible mixed show. Def a must for next Year. Do cheap when you save tubers or set your own seed. I hope I keep my mini dahlia and we bought a new red one this year I am in love with, I hope I keep it through the winter. See pictures...
