Good Evening FORKERS

Posted: 13/08/2013 at 22:29

Evening all.  Have had to work from home tonight so only time to water garden and weed pull as I go.  Wish I'd had a bun (or two) or a chocolate finger to lessen the pain!

Chicky, hope tomorrow is not too horrid for you.  Norfolk is one of my fav counties, it is sad that you can't visit under happier circumstances.

BL - no chance of seeing a snake in my garden, more likely an urban fox or one of the MANY cats that seem to enjoy my garden as much as I do!  (The woman at the bottom of the garden had the cheek to tell me that it was her cats garden before it was mine! I wouldn't mind if they left my plants alone - digging does tend to disturb them).

Boil a pan of water Stacey! Couldn't go without my cuppa (all be it coffee!)

I probably shouldn't, but find the name of the house funny John.

Sorry to hear about your tree, but glad there have been no casualties Mrs G!

Another start to a working week for me.  Don't know how you all fit in work and gardening! By the time I come home I'm just fit for watering and a quick weed at the same time (and dead-head as necessary).  Still, have 2 weeks off next week and I plan to be very busy digging out a new bed and trying cuttings for the first time (have a feeling I'll be visiting You Tube for help).

I have a forsythia in the front that has run away with itself and in need of significant pruning (prob not the right time of year to be doing so apologies to all if this is the case). Had to take a trip to Homebase for a saw to assist me and ended up rescuing some plants - a hanging basket with fushias, a chocolate cosmos and 2 x osteospermum.

Fairygirl - had a butterfly land on my foot when enjoying a coffee on my new bench. Was a magic moment.

Hi Potty Gardener! I have a "patio plum" (no fruit, any tips on what I might need to do with this to flower/fruit will be greatly received!), a pear and an apple tree. These were in the garden when I bought the house. Most of the flowers/plants I have put in this year thanks to a fabulous market stall and my wonderful gardening brother and his wife who gifted me a lot of plants as a moving in present!  I don't have the tree icon atm so can't put any more pics on atm - sorry.

Great pics. The potatoes look yummy. I am not sure about growing veg, thought I'd try with flowers first. My first foray into fruit and veg are the strawberry plants donated by my brother (they were delish) and a tomato plant planted in the same bed. I fear my inexperience shows on the plant - lots of tomatoes coming but the plant looks a bit wild! Not sure if it shows in the picture?

Still, am hoping all the tomatoes will grow - my first ever! Maybe I should have watched some YouTube videos for instructions!!

Read the threads last night and now joined - my first post!  This place seems very friendly and I have enjoyed reading all your comments and looking at your pictures

Am very new to gardening and have a long garden that I am slowly making my own. By comparison it is shabby (work in progress) and I doubt I'll be putting on many photos.  That said, here is a pic of my (haha) Hollyhocks! Fingers crossed they come back next year as tall they ain't!  Planted at the back of a thankfully thin/narrow border they are just visible.
