Sad looking Ceonothus

I nearly lost mine last year after moving it at the wrong time. A dose of epsom salts brought it back practically from the dead! It's growing brilliantly this year even after this terrible weather.

Remove Robinia Tree?

I did keep mine as it did eventually come back to life properly last year and it looked lovely albeit a few brown patches on the leaves. However, parts of the tree have small leaves developing this year but much of the tree - especially the top branches look completely dead

I'm going to give it a few more weeks to see what happens but may take it out as is easiest to do it now whilst still a relatively young tree...

Sorry to hear your trees have both been affected too

My dahlia tubers are not doing anything

Mine didnt spring back to life either after overwintering and then potting up for a month  I've just planted mine in the garden and can see a shoot starting to appear (fingers crossed!)

I want to hide the houses at the end of the garden

We went for a mixed screen against our fence of Laurel, climbers and deciduous trees for interest. Can recommend Solanum Crispum as is a great, fast growing climber. We're slowly getting a nice dense screen but it will take a while. Looked into pleached option as we are very overlooked by windows and I'm quite desperate for some privacy in our small garden but was a few thousand iirc?

What tree is this?

I think it might be a Prunus Kanzan as the leaves and flowers look just like mine!

Under trampoline plants?

Posted: 15/04/2013 at 12:50

What a good idea! Half my small garden is given over to the kids trampoline  and i just assumed I had to put up with a dead grass patch underneath...

Watching with interest to see if there are any options

Evergreen climbers

I have an armandii and a solanum both of which have shot up the fence in just a few years. You may need to extend your fence height with trellis though as both these plants grow big very fast!

Morrisions

Most of my garden comes from Morrisons as ive had to establish both a front and back garden on a very tight budget over the last few years.

Successes include several Clematis (the more established £5 ones not the little cuttings), an Azalea which flowers like mad every year so far, several Virginia Creepers and a Choysia which was slow to establish but going great guns now!

Failures have been a Camellia which has never flowered and the cheaper Clematis plants (bought loads but only a few have done anything and most destroyed by slugs).

I buy most of my pots, garden products and am planning to get a mini greenhouse from there once weather warm up!

When to prune

Posted: 28/02/2013 at 18:33

I started today too

Am just a bit  concerned I went too mad with pruning my solanum crispum which had really outgrown its space!

Lovely to see some sun at last...

Black spot on red robin bush

my red robin has the same

most of the leaves appear to be affected and i assumed  it was due to the weather last year. I will try the suggested treatment above - thanks!
