believe it or not the best results iv had in pots so far has been 40/40 molesoil / topsoil and 20 fine grit,iv been out collecting molesoil again today, i dont know what the old mole does to it but it just works so well, and free

Greenbucket,this year for extra room we are useing builders merchants delevery bags,they should let you have the used ones for a couple of pounds,just fold the sides down to the depth you want ,we then put 4 pieces of old wood in to keep it square and fill it up,you can grow what ever you want in it just make sure theres drain holes in it, for water butts visit the nearest dairy farmer and ask him for any disinfecting tubs hes used,they are perfect (about 40gallon) and non returnable,they are useally glad to get rid of them or maybe a couple of pounds,

Potted Hydrangea

Hi Dove, an older gardener on our allotment told me if i wanted to turn Hydrangeas from blue to deep purple you can introduce  alaminium or iron mixes into the soil,he has one deep deep blue purple, he says he put a rusty nail into the roots when he planted it ,does this make sence to you ,hes assured me he,s not pulling my leg and his garden is stunning, iv got about 30 cuttings for this years planting out so i,ll give it a try and see what happens,

Filling a new raised bed.

Dove sounds about right,in a brand new allotment we deturfed,built raised beds from scaffold boards £4 each ,,one each side one cut in half for the ends then filled with top soil then covered with local farmyard manure ,full tractor load £20 filled 7 of these beds and left it to the worms,without a shadow of a doubt the raised beds are the way to go almost no work at all to maintain them once done and 5 monthes later the soil is all mixed and ready to go thanks to the critters in the soil,and all the beds are already well drained after all that rain all this advise was from this site and our neighbor allotmenteers and its worked a treat and very cheap to do

cheers ,many thanks for that just the job, just got back from the allotment very very cold but sunny,wild life pond frozen 1" deep,,now  thats cold, got some smashing fresh  mole soil for later potting,chins up summer on its way,

Hi all,,, last year lots of people lost lots of toms,we were the same ,so we cut our losses and made green tom chutney ,we got the recipe off this site and it was as everyone agreed just Great!!!! trouble was not enough toms to make enough,So if you were to grow toms just for green chutney which we are going to do this year and make loads which tommies would you choose to grow especially for this purpose, i suppose im looking for a big tomy but we really don't know enough about toms yet to decide,by the way its blowing a good en here in Tenby,Cold and miserable again roll on Summer,and any help would be good with the chutney

Watering Systems

Brummiben ,unfortunately my auto basket watering system only extends to half an inverted water bottle connected down through the soil into a small tub with thin cut off toweling in the soil acting as wicks and it works, haven't got a patent for it yet but might right off to The Dragons or maybe not ,seriously iv not seen a good one at a reasonable price yet but I'm following your thread so good luck matey

Happy Mothers Day

Now just a second Brumbull, my partner and i were suposed to be collecting Mole soil today up the allotment for potting,Now she says its raining ,cold misserable,cant be bothered  AND its Mothers day AND she,s already had Christmas day off!!! wots it all comimng too,She,ll want her birthday off next,, Brum wot are you starting here you,ll be giving em the vote next come on
