Figs tree and fruit from last year

Posted: 09/03/2014 at 11:06

Hi Lesinni,  here in UK after leaf-fall we remove all figs larger than a small pea,as leaving them will delay or reduce the next seasons crop and can sometimes  give rise to die back. i would get-em-off .

New petrol mower

Posted: 08/03/2014 at 11:58

Hi all, after months of surfing the net and physicaly looking at mowers of different types and asking advise, i have just purchased a Qualcast self propelled petrol  148cc 4 stroke 46cm cut, Briggs and Stratton engine ,single lever height adjustment mower, from Homebase, £199. the price seems very cheap for a self propelled mower but Qualcast seem to be well recommended , so i will use this machine or Kate will,  and report back after our last cut this year  and give anyone who might be looking for a mower by then a full report of if its good or not.

Appalling Customer Service!

Morning all,not a bad morning erein Norfolk, Jim i am one of the first to give companies a chance but now and again this kind of thing happens, the worst part is not having a face standing in front of you while you explain the problem especially in a busy shop as this always gets them moving quicker,  one of the downsides of ord-on-line. One of the best services we have ever ever had is Homebase in Croma, not only that, after searching the web for a mower for months with no success i found they now have in some Qualcast Briggs and Stratton self propelled petrol 4 stroke mowers £199 ,they have  put one to one side for me  im picking one up on Tuesday 10% off for oldens like me, really good staff and they have changed things for me that i got wrong, again good service. (retired dont work there ) put em on the good list garden part is good as well.

Hi Graham scaffolding companies are usually glad to deliver used scaffold boards if its  a decent number for around £ 4 a board, not as good as sleepers but cheaper.

Toil soil advice needed

Posted: 07/03/2014 at 11:51

we found raised beds the best way,as we had to use new soil but gave it a good manuring over winter the worms did all the work and we ended up with a no dig allotment ,but you do have to watch the moisture as they can dry a little quicker in summer.

New Allotment, advice please!!

Posted: 07/03/2014 at 11:22

Carol , when we got our first allotment the ground was a field,we cleared the top and had to import about 11 tons of top soil so you can understand we meant business,, the best 2 things we did were 1 got a shed 2 talked to everybody and anybody on the allotments, after seeing the hard work we put in, the most knowledgeable allotmenteers waited till we put the kettle on and came to say hello, from that cup o tea came loads of info and loads of   " i got to many  these have you got room for them on your allotment" ), spuds, rhubarb, you name it we were given it, now we do the same in return, dont forget you only make mistakes in a hurry Enjoy and good luck.
