Hi, has anyone grown ornamental gourds ?

I was thinking of trying to grow them for bird houses but wondered if it's too cold

in north of England for them.

I have the green alkanet in my allotment garden it's a very good bee plant.

It can be a thug but it's easy to pull up.

Just getting started and had several garden thefts

I recently had a piece of glass stolen from my greenhouse in my allotment garden.

It's private land and fairly secure, they took the clips as well.

It cost me £4 for to have a replacement cut.

I was so annoyed that another gardener would do such a thing.

Whoever you are i hope you cut your fingers!

Do you have a photo ? Hard to tell with out seeing it, do you have neighbours on both sides, if so when you dig out you may have to build  retaining walls.

If you look on Pinterest and type in terraced gardens there are lots of photos on there to give you ideas.

Training a photinia ( RED ROBIN)

I think you may have planted them too near the wall, they seem close to the base of wall on photos, the soil at the base of a wall can be rather dry. i have a standard photinia they do seem to grow a lot but if you trim every year they will make a good hedge. Also when you prune the new growth will be the red colour, i usually prune mine when the leaves go green to get the nice red new growth.
