slug slime

Posted: 24/07/2012 at 23:02

Me and my little boy put the slugs in a container of salt and leave overnight, by the time we get back to it in the morning the slugs have pretty much dissolved and can just be thrown in the bin. My little lad loves the goryness of it all and 1p a slug is a great incentive! (he's only 4 so he's happy with a handfull of coppers) Think I might try the flour and water method though.

My Calicarpa seems to be growing outwards instead of upwards, any ideas on how to rectify this? Still quite swall plant so dont really want to cut back at all.

Thankyou, we have started on the sunflowers. This year we are growing black sunflowers too which should be interesting. Think he would love growing a wigwam out of peas. Will give it a go.

Thanks, the rock garden was my little boys idea. He wants to claim this part of the garden as his own. He's only 4 so not sure roses  will appeal to him but if we dig lots of grit into the soil will that help stop it from becoming boggy in the winter as this is the major issue.

I have an area of garden that from October to May gets no sun at all and if we get lots of rain becomes boggy. The rest of the year however it gets sun from midday to sunset and so can become quite dry. I have no idea what to grow, I considered laying down gravel and stones creating some kind of rock garden but i have no idea which plants to use.
