Ok,

I could take a chance and plant tomorrow and if they fail I will do so some backups.

Temp here in the NW near Preston is: between 4 and 6 degrees during night.

Is that too cold?

Runner/Dwarf Beans

My runner beans are still in pots indoors(unheated shed) and are about 12" tall now (from pot to leaf) and leggy.

Can they be planted deep like tomatoes (so as to get a good rooting)?

Thanks

Garlic - progress report

Posted: 07/05/2013 at 19:03

Garlic needs to experience at least 30 days of frost so the bulb will split into cloves hence the reason garlic is planted in October/November time or then February time.

I planted mine in the ground mid April ( sown 3 weeks earlier in toilet rolls indoors)

Because we haven't had 30 days of frost to split the bulb since I put them in the ground, does that mean I will not  have a bulb as an end result... just a single clove??

thanks

I thought that the pots were just to get the rhubarb started again and once it sprouted they should be removed?

No I haven't picked any yet.

So you are saying that you just leave it in the dark permenantly and pick when ready?

Hi,

Dug up my rhubarb in Dec, split it and replanted end of Jan.

I covered the 5 different lumps with 12" tall flower pots until now.

I would like to know when I can safely remove the pots so the rhubarb is in daylight once again.

All the clumps have resprouted and some are with stems of 7"long.

Thanks

Growing Under Plastic Sheeting

Hello,

In December I prepared various beds, weeding manuring etc... then, I sheeted them up with black 1000 micron visqueen.

Today when I pulled back the sheeting there was a carpet of fine weeds happily growing underneath the sheeting.

I presumed black sheeting would surpress them but that has not happened.

Why is this?

Any help appreciated

Andrew
