I had this problem 3 yrs on the trot. One day the leaves were big and healthy the next the bush was stripped clean!.

It had been in the same place for years though from the previous allotment owner.

I decided to dig it up and move to a new site for this year. Fingers crossed, it's doing very well in it's new home.

We shall see.....

Planting out tomatoes

Posted: 17/05/2015 at 18:52

There are two types of tomato being Urbikany & Latah, (bush type), that I planted outdoors last year on  27th April. They are supposed to be for cooler climates and, me being in Lancashire I decided to give them a try.

They both crop early and went on yielding well into Oct

Can be bought here:  (

Tomatos & Peppers (In Winter)

Is it possible to grow tomatoes & peppers indoors in Winter?

I have a large window in my house which is in sun almost all day and the central heating would be on.

Read that dwarf types would be best as, they can be on window sills for maximum light and heat also, the radiator is directly underneath the window.

Grown these for the first time and they are huge now. I am really pleased. I haven't watered them once since planting. Maybe growing under plastic sheeting has helped.

All I did was put the young plant in a hole filled with compost and cover with an empty 5 ltr water bottle as a cloche

until it developed a little.

Just wondering what they taste like and when should I remove them from the vine??

Runner Beans Being Eaten

Well the latest is, that I decided to put a small plastic membrane over the stem followed with sharp sand & egg shells and, up to now fingers crossed the bean (yes bean) I have others to pop in as soon as they can cope is surviving well and climbing like a mountaineer.

Try digging down and placing pots of pellets leaving an inch proud, then put a slate or stone over so nothing else can get to them.

Not sure what you mean. I have not sown the bean directly. It was put in the ground as a young plant.

Could you post a photo or drawing of your method?

This happened last year. I have put them in a different place this year and the same happens.

They are being eaten overnight with just the stems remaining.

I have tried plastic cloches/sharp sand/grit/egg shells &, pellets.

Are these SAS snails ?

Would growing under plastic sheeting help??

OK 73 Days have past and I dug up a plant today. They look marvelous. Slightly larger than an egg.

Just dug up 2 more plants!

Maybe they have advanced because I grew them under black plastic ??
