Jimbo83   I forced a newly planted rhubarb and lost it completely.  I now have two rhubarbs and force them every other year but that also seems to be too much so going to increase to three plants this year and do a three year rotation on them.  Hope this helps - I'm in the south east.

Re using last years patio pots

If you do decide to use last years compost you will need to add some slow release fertilizer as the nutrients will have been used up.  I buy it from the pound shop and in a pot comparison I did last year it worked just as well as the expensive stuff from the garden centre!

No need to be rude Edd.  I'm not sure how your rant on lanolin helps with detering slugs.

Good idea Andy19, also copious amounts of compost should help.  Our veg patch is mounded which helps with the water problem.
