Daffodil and Tulip Bulbs

Posted: 13/05/2012 at 21:14

It depends what you're planning to do with them.  If you want to replant them as clumps, just leave them in the pots until you want them.  Leave the tulip pots in the sun, the daffodils anywhere out of the way.

If you want to replant individual bulbs, you can get the tulips out as soon as flowering is over and let them dry off, plant them later in the year.

Daffodils should be left in the pots until the leaves have died down completely, then get them out promptly as they will start to grow roots again in no time.

All will benefit from liquid feed while still in growth.

Plum branches pointing down

I have 2 Victoria plum trees in the garden, they were already mature when we moved in 10 years ago.

One is on a dwarfing rootstock and the other is a 'proper' tree.

My conclusion from this experience is that growing Victoria on a dwarfing rootstock isn't ideal.  Ours also has branches trailing to the ground.

On the other hand, picking the fruit on the full size tree needs a stepladder.  It's a good-looking tree in it's own right though, even if you don't want the fruit.
