Massive grass snake

Posted: 05/07/2014 at 19:40

My Jack Russell caught and killed a shrew/vole type creature this a.m. as we were out on a walk. I am praying she does not catch sight of the snake as she would probably go for it.

what sport?

Anyone knows what is this yellow-leaf plant?

Houseplantgirl; you may be right, the plant reminds me of ones I have seen in Barbados and they have a lot of croton type plants there.

I can't see clearly as they are in a dark corner, but I think there are 3 or 4.

Philippa, I think we need Rosie to tell us about that as she uses facebook.

Good grief The bird feeders all hang from a pear tree in the centre of my tiny lawn; there are finches of all kinds (except bullfinches), and great and blue tits, sparrows etc. Will the snake try to get at them?

Ahhh! thanks Dove; but Robins are way down the garden beyond the g/h. The bird feeders are very close to where the snake went; would they eat dropped bird seed? The birds who feed on the ground are mainly big wood pigeons, too big for a snake to tackle I would think.

Kate, I think all your ideas are lovely; except replacing the gravel with paving. Apparently, because water can't drain away so well it is a contributary factor in localised flooding.

About the flowers, what colours are you looking for?

I have the Rose Compassion over my porch; will try to post a photo later - it is spectacular and depending where you are in the uk, can keep flowering up to December.
