Talkback: Choosing nutrients for your plants

Well I am trying to grow a nice thick hedge with them, right near to a mature  oak tree, so anything I can give to them to encourage growth is very welcome!

Improving condition of lawn

Posted: 22/01/2015 at 14:15

I have a lawn which is situated two thirds under the canopy of a Large oak so it doesn't get much sun, and the soil is quite sticky and heavy . I do manage to get a reasonable lawn when we get  a fairly dry spring and summer, but what can i do to it to improve the quality of it without literally digging it up and replacing with a better top soil.

What plant is this please?

There is an Artemisia Dracunculus that looks similar.

I have lavatera in the front of my garden which has different shaped leaves and woodier stems to this, but I think it must be perhaps another variety maybe, thanks for all your suggestions, as Lyn says I think it is time to pull it up now as it has not produced any nice flowers.

I have looked up a mallow and it does look a little similar but I have had no flowers at all which I suppose is possible but would have expected it to have a mass of flowers, as it is in a sunny spot. Also it doesn' t seem to have any burrs on it either, still none the wiser really, but it is nice to have suggestions.

It is nearly 5 foot tall as well, which is why it is a little bit mysterious. Have looked up the shoo fly plant and it doesn't look the same, and even the pelargoniums look different leaves.

I have just bruised the leaves and to be honest it just smells 'leafy' with no specific odour.
