Conifers don't have long roots. So, no problem. Rather, the problem would be at ground level. Pine needles change soil PH, making it more acidic. So not every plant can grow in the shade Christmas tree.

March and April are ideal months for planting seeds.

Some seeds have very short period of viability. If you wait until September might be too late.
