I Found Bees!

Posted: 02/07/2013 at 20:01

More likely to be a variety of solitary bee than a honey bee.

Solitary bees will leave the burrow they have dug once they've laid their eggs.  The eggs will soon hatch and eat the pollen left for them.  Over winter they'll lay dormant then emerge in spring.  Thats my understanding anyway.

i actually have some of this in the front, it just looks slightly different in its early form.

The ones in the front are in full bloom covered in the purple flowers at the moment.  I divided a load before Xmas i liked them that much.

Obviously self seeded somehow......

Many thanks Dovefromabove

Bees or wasps?

Solitary bee i think, i have these living underground in my garden, live in very small numbers, very placid, minding their own business.

I can sit right next to their burrows and they couldnt care less.

Bulb sizes?

Many thanks.  I found 10 for £3 online and expected tiny little bulbs for that price.  They're actually average sized.

Thanks again.

How big or small is a lily bulb described as 14/16?

Just found this growing in a quiet corner of the garden, i may move it somewhere more prominent for better viewing.

Any idea of its name please?

Bees setting up home in my garden....

i've managed to get in touch with a couple of bee keepers and both say its highly unlikely they will be honey bees if they are living under ground. More likely solitary bees.  So persuading them to relocate would be a no no.

One of them also advised i keep young children away
