Salvia hot lips

I cut mine down to a few inches every Spring - and they always reward me with masses of flowers. They are so easy to take cuttings from, which I overwinter in my plant house  I love this plant!

The red berries are on a nandina domestica.  I have three - and all are fabulous plants. When they become leggy I remove old stems at ground level.

Can't believe this "annual". Grown from a packet of seeds, I must have overlooked it when I removed the others in November .... after a frost it drops down to the ground and looks "mushy"; the next day it's standing tall and fresh again - and it's got buds! Definitely going to sow some more this year.

Sealant for my acer?

I would like to restore my acer to a "tree shape" by removing up to five of the lower branches which are turning down towards the ground and spoiling the shape. Do you think I will need to apply sealant (none of the branches are very thick).

I could supply a December photo if it would help ...

What a great idea, Patsy! Next time I go to the nearby beach I'm going to bring just one or two home with me ...... yes, I know - but surely they won't miss a couple?

Blooming bellis!

Posted: 20/12/2016 at 18:50

Last year I sowed bellis perennis and planted them out in the garden in the Autumn ....none survived. I suspect problems with wet rather than cold here in Dorset... so this year I have planted them in a protected raised bed. They are blooming prolifically!! Please will somebody reassure me they should flower well when I plant them out in the garden next Spring.

Every day seems to be murky and foggy at the moment - but hope you can smell the fragrance!

Haven't been able to use forum for a few days because it's been hidden under an NHS advert! Glad to see it's back to normal today ...
