Vine Weevil

Posted: 18/10/2015 at 13:34

I hadn't noticed any problems with one of my heuchera - until it was literally "blown out of the pot". There were hardly any roots left and I quickly identified the vine weevil in the pot. But - I washed and replanted the heuchera, kept it in shade for a while and it is now doing fine again. So don't despair! I shall use provado early in the year next time.

What a lovely thread! I've seen so many stunning photos and picked up lots of ideas...these views from our kitchen window are still giving lots of pleasure:

Obviously in the wrong place in my garden ....I put it somewhere where the soil is dry and it gets full sun - but it needed to be supported and just doesn't look right. I think it may need to be given more space.... Could I cut it down and replant now? Dig up and keep in a pot over Winter to be replanted next Spring?

We have a lovely hawthorn in our front garden. It is a lovely shape and is much admired early in the year. But come July/August it has always lost all its leaves. What is the problem?

Stipa tenuissima flopping

I follow the advice from Knoll Gardens: when they start to flop, cut them back by about a third. I have done this for the last few years and come August they are standing up again and looking good.

Best buy bulbs

Posted: 02/09/2015 at 18:10

I've bought bulbs from j Parkers for years - and have always been delighted with their size, quality and price. I know they get bad reviews but think thsee are always to do with their plants. I intend to buy quite a large number of bulbs this Autumn and have been doing some research: de Jaeger, Sarah Raven, Crocus. Yes, the sizes might be very slightly bigger but I haven't found anything to compare with j Parkers and will be buying from them again with total confidence.
