Pyracantha problems

Posted: 04/09/2013 at 19:00
Sorry, all evidence removed and burnt: main symptoms: berries which form but the majority turn brown/black. Some defoliation. Symptoms not "sudden" enough to be fireblight. I read somewhere that a fungicide has to contain a certain ingredient to be effective against pyracantha scab, but I can't remember what it was! Am hoping someone will know....

I'm 99 per cent sure that my pyracantha is suffering from scab. Has anyone found a fungicide that is effective? I understand that many of them have no effect.

Thanks for the reassuring comments. When I looked at them yesterday I realised that it is the ones which are in an open, sunny bed which have virtually no flowers. I had conscientiously fed and watered them to make up for the lack of rain - but, as you say, it could be the heat. I think I'll leave them where they are, because they were brilliant last year.

Thanks again for your interest.

I have approx 30 fuchsias - all hardy and all have had the same treatment: regular watering and feeding. All are now an impressive size, and most of them covered in flowers. But just a few have no flowers at all. Why is this, I wonder? Should I replace the non-flowerers? Or might they still produce some blooms?

Thanks for the comments. I think the hot weather may have contributed: I try to keep them well-watered, but I'm sure I "missed" once or twice. A similar question: Is it alright to leave carrots in the ground for a while AFTER they are obviously ready to pull? In other words, is it possible to leave them in too long?

I've been growing carrot Early Nantes 2 and have had a lovely crop. But, among the most recent batch I pulled, some had very tough, thick stems and a hard core which went right through the carrot. Can someone tell me what went wrong?

Thanks for the advice, everyone. Any ideas about my Guernsey Cream? I don't know whether to prune it now, to encourage a later pruning.
