Magnolias Everywhere

Posted: 30/06/2016 at 10:07

Snails would love to nibble my magnolia. I usually make sure no branches are touching the soil, but must have missed one or two ... Removed 11 snails from quite high up yesterday. Quite a bit of foliage shredded ...

Thank you so much, fidgetbones for such a helpful (and knowledgeable!) reply.

Thanks for all the advice. I'll definitely leave them where they are. If I also leave the Camelot plants in, might they flower again next year too?

I sowed seeds of two types of foxglove last year - Camelot and Summer King. The flowers on the Camelot plants are lovely but there isn't a single flower stalk on the Summer King - although they all have a strong rosette of leaves. Should I leave them fo a while, replace them with something else or leave them in and hope they will perform next year? I must admit to being very disappointed.

I'd like an ad blocker - but have looked at the App Store and have no idea which is the best one for my iPad, to increase my enjoyment of this forum. Advice would be much appreciated. I'm getting quite dizzy from moving ads ....

Where are all the ranters?

I have decided not to look at the forum for another week .... It's like losing a dear friend and I don't think I'm the only one to be upset. I pride myself on being willing to accept new ideas but this is awful.

Dahlia cuttings

Posted: 02/05/2016 at 12:14

I have taken cuttings from potted tubers for the first time: they are growing well and I would love to give some to my daughter to help fill out her new garden. Will they flower this year? Following Sarah Raven's advice I planted the tubers quite shallowly in their 3 litre pots ..... will it be OK for them to be just as shallow when I plant them out?

Badgers or Crows - Terrible Damage

I do sympathise with you. Our front lawn looked like a churned-up football pitch a few years ago and all the local crows spent their days tearing up the grass to find leatherjacket larvae. Have a look at bayergarden.co.uk. We used the provado product recommended and have had no problems since. Like you, we had inherited a poor lawn and I think our tlc since then has helped too. Good luck!

Ugly patio!

We were thinking we'd have to do quite an expensive "makeover" on our patio - but this thread has given us other ideas ...
