Re-planted Sunflowers - Leaves wilting, generally not as expected

Posted: 27/05/2013 at 17:10

Ive just planted 5 sunflower colossus in the front garden, they are about 2' high and im hoping they will look nice grouped together. I grew them from seed and have put others in different areas of the garden. If children can manage to grow them i should be able to!! Watch this space....

I've always put vaseline around the tops of my hosta pots and so far never had a problem with slugs, the only problem i have is, i forget the vaseline is there and go to move the pots around and end up with greasy fingers! YUK!

What did you do in your garden today?

This morning started out so warm and sunny again didnt it?, I pegged out the washing, planted out my beans against their wigwam, swept the patio, took Stan out (my dog, see photo) for a walk in the woods, then took my daughter and boyfriend to Leeds to catch their train to London, had some lunch, drove home, brought the washing in, then got changed to cut the lawn and it started to rain,Noooo!! Goddamn british weather!! Maybe I'll get it done after tea!!

Fasold beans, any good?

Well, I'll give them a go and see, its all part of the fun and intrigue!! Looking forward to seeing the flowers even if the veg doesn't live up to my expectations Thank you for the feedback! ( It will be a challenge anyway, as we have a pair of ducks that trample the flowerbeds two or three times a day on their way to the back door for their breakfast, lunch and supper! Between those and my barmy cocker spaniel Stan it will be a miracle if anything comes up!! Wouldnt be without any of them!!)

Fasold beans, any good?

I am growing Fasold climbing  beans on a warm sunny windowsill until they are a bit bigger and the soil warms up,planning to train up a wigwam,to give height and interest to an otherwise flower border, but since I sowed, Ive read that some people have had a disappointing result with them. Anyone grown them and if so were they any good?

Does anyone have a tried and tested way to keep next doors cat from using my newly planted flowerbed as her personal toilet? I have tried orange peel scattered around, also short sticks pushed into the ground and have just ordered a product called 'Get Off', and will update you on the result on that. but in the meantime I'm on guard!!

Hi Bigolob, I am growing 2 types of tomatoes, one is called Rosabunda ( a plum type ) and another one called Sungold. Both in a growbag in an unheated GH. They are still small, 10 " (inches)and 14" respectively, and at this rate wont get anything until Christmas!
