Echinacea purpurea

Thanks Bob, I know it grows to a rather large plant so was concerned a container could affect it's flowering performance. You'll have to let me know how it flowers this Summer

Just wondering has anyone ever successfully grown Echinacea purpurea in a large container?

Thanks BH

allotment

I've just taken on a new allotment in west Norfolk - had it three weeks. I sympathise, its very hard not to get carried away, I knew I really wanted to grow asparagus and so nearly every spare moment has been spent prepping the ground for those and making sure they were in in April- which they were- just! I've also planted some spuds, garlic and onion sets. That's one half of the allotment taken care of, the other I'm growing seedlings at home undercover to transplant later. I have sweetcorn, tomatoes, climbing french beans, courgettes and chillis. I plan to sew direct heritage carrots and salad leaves! Don't let your enthusiasm be squashed, if you really want to do something, you'll do it

Sounds like they will look great together. I'd have liked a full sized buddleia but I don't have the room sadly.

Thanks Holly Hock. Here's hoping our little plants make a big impact.
Good luck.

Thanks both for the help. I haven't pruned it at all yet as its reasonably new. It flowered a bit before winter set in but this is its first year looking more like a plant than a twig as it was when I bought it. I'll keep an eye on it and prune when the weather warms up in spring. Of course I'll report back on my progress. Im hoping to bring plenty of butterflies to the garden so fingers crossed!

Hi, I have a blue chip buddleia in a pot which I bought a few months ago. Should I prune it now? If so how? I know buddleia davidii respond to hard pruning now, but how should I treat this minature variety? Thanks in advance. BH

Talkback: Apple blossom

I am lucky enough to own the last Bramley apple tree from a former orchard that was sited on the land where mine and my neighbours houses now sit. It currently has some beautiful blossom on it and really does cheer the soul on a miserable Norfolk day. It also produces rather good apples which made some yummy apple and ginger jam last year, amongst other sweet treats encased in pastry!
