These plants only need spent flower stems removed.  I made the mistake a few years ago and cut all the plants down to the ground and they never regrew.  After getting advice, probably on this site, I bought another three, all different colours, and am so pleased with them.  Originally I had them planted in full sun in an exposed position but now know they will last for years in a partially shaded site which is sheltered.  For the last few years I have taken summer cuttings from them which are so easy to raise to full plants.

Female blackbird loses her mate - very sad

Posted: 04/06/2013 at 17:20

I had a blackbird's nest in my hawthorn hedge and everything was going along fine until, a few days ago, when I found three baby birds on the ground.  They were a fair size but without feathers, certainly not old enough to leave the nest, and had not been mutilated in any way. The nest has not been taken over by another bird and I'm left wondering what could have caused the sad happening.

I have now got a picture of the two plants.  The nepeta looks very floppy but I only potted on yesterday.  The other one is, I now also know, a coreopsis.  Is nepeta usually a floppy plant or should I trim it?  Thanks for your help Fairygirl

Good morning Fairygirl, and thank you so much.  You are definitely right and that is the offer.  I had asked a neighbour and she identified the nepeta as agastache but, later, when I looked it up it didn't seem to bear any resemblance to the plants I have so at least I have another plant correctly identified. Have now checked my bank statement and the dates tally.  I'm pleased the plants are nepeta and coreopsis and will post a picture of them when they finally flower.  The foxgoves are healthy but won't flower this year but three, out of the six geum, have small spikes.  In fact, it was an excellent offer from T&M consisting of 24 plants.  I feel I must make that comment as have posted derogatory comments about that company in the earlier part of the year.

Hi lucky3, thanks for your reply.  I'm just being lazy and hoping someone still has a copy of GW mag or, alternatively, sent off for the collection.  The three I mentioned have all performed well but the mystery plant is rather spindly and is not giving any clues as to what it is.  If no one has knowledge of this collection tomorrow then I will take a picture.

Several months ago I bought four different types of plants from GW magazine (can't remember who I gave fit to) on offer of postage only from T&M.  The plants are agastache, geum and foxgove but I have no idea what the fourth group is.  Leaves are similar to penstemon but I don't think it's that as not so bushy as penstemon.  Did anyone else take up this offer and recognise what I'm talking about?

Thanks everyone for the info.  I'm not totally comvinced I will be able to dig a big enough hole, and even then, will the roots be able to grow?  Anyway, I'm going to wait until Lidl or Morrisons start selling trees again and then buy one.

I have an area outside my boundary fence which is an unadopted rough lane and wondered if I could plant a syringa there which would then grow taller than the fence and be visible from my garden.  I would want to prune it to try and make it more of a tree than a bush and as the ground is very stoney I cannot dig down very far.  Does this idea seem viable?  I don't want to plant a conifer as have just had 22 of them removed from the other side of the garden.

Perennial Foxglove?????

Have some brilliant news about no longer being ignored by T&M.  Had phone call from pleasant and helpful lady at T&M in response to my problem dating back to 11th March.  I had previously been given two £10 codes to use for refund which had not been recognised.  When I asked which one to use she suggested using them both because of previous problems.  This I have now done so await delivery of my plants.

Good luck to everyone else with on this site waiting for refunds or delivery of illumination pink.

Perennial Foxglove?????

Two subjects on this thread - one about illumination pink foxgoves and poor service from T&M and I want to, again, comment on both.  Foxgloves delivered last year and still only 3/4" high.  No chance of them flowering this year but they are looking healthy - I must stay positive.

On March 11th emailed T&M re perennial poppies delivered November to say they had died.  Since then have phoned, sent many eamils and written letter but still waiting for promised £10 voucher which I was going to use towards an order of over £30 with T&M but have now bought plants from local Wyevale G/C.  T&M have occasionally replied with computer generated emails but I find these quite insulting as they are obviously a fob-off!
