New turf on old flowerbed

Posted: 14/03/2016 at 12:46

We have a flowerbed running the length of our western fence. We have let it become overgrown as we concentrated on other parts of the garden and the soil is very heavy. We are now thinking of laying new turf over the bed to extend the lawn to the fence, better for our two-year-old to run about on.

I was wondering how much prep work should go into the bed before laying the turf? There are weeds and grasses and old roots, do we need to get rid of it all, ie, below ground level as well as above or will the lack of sun stunt most of them? Due to its location the bed doesn't see much sun, and never really dries out on the summer, will this not have an adverse effect on new turf as well?

Any advice is appreciated

Hi, I've had a rosemary plant in my flowering bed for about 3 years, it started as just a shop bought small plant but is now a couple if feet tall and wide. I use it all the time and only ever cut into new wood. Over the last month, for the first time, there are small blue/purple flowers all over the plant. Have I been eating an inedible rosemary plant?! Or has it run it's course?? Any ideas greatly received

What Seed Potatoes do i get?

And remember when you buy a bag of seed potatoes you will get a lot of them. Dont be tempted to put too many in your grow bags, if you're using them, two a bag is enough.

Thanks Dave, do you have any other good advice about weeping roses, I find it quite hard to get advice other than climbers and plants? For instance, if I prune feed and mulch just now how often should I then feed, been winging it a bit?

Can I ask if the same applies to a weeping rose tree which I planted last spring? Is hard pruning? It has, what looks like old wood at the start of the branches, should I avoid cutting into this?

Thanks folks

Has anybody tried Echo Lawn Care?

Dovefromnabove: was going to poist a similar question after seeing various 4in 1 products at the garden centre. Do these ortoiducts do all they say? I've read so much about moss probkems, which I have, that it seemed a bit too good to be true to have one product to save the day! Are you promising me that this will work!
