ROSES

Posted: 27/03/2013 at 18:07

Thanks for the replies fols, apparently we will have another month of cold winter weather! So will maybe wait a couple more weeks then prune. Meant to say the Roses are just plants in the flower bed, not climbers etc

Thanks again

Due to the snow and cold I havent done much pruning to my roses which are probably far too tall as I didnt prune last autumn either (new to gardening). Is it too late to prune them as they are no longer dormant? Would it do more harm than good?

Any advice would be appreciated. Ta.

Franks that's magic...its great to get in depth knowledge...I watch Monty's videos but they tend to be short and only give you a rough idea...thanks to everyone

Beechgrove has been shown up here for at least 25 years....it used to be shown on a Saturday night right before Sportscene (our Match of the Day) and I used to hate it when I was a boy waiting for the footy to come on! Now my folks laugh when I tell them I dont miss it!!

Thanks everyone...I'll check the stem and if OK I'll feed and give a good mulch.  Grade 2 for pruning I'm sure so will check that too..thanks again

Clematis

Hi, we bought two small Clematis from a supermarket last Spring...about two feet high and only a couple of quid each.....there has been virtually no growth and no flowers on either, and I have read that I should have heavily manured the planting hole and mulched which I didnt really do. I also have few plants round them to offer shade to their "feet"......I haven't pruned at all due to their not being much to prune!...Should I replant, or make a couple of adjustments and be more patient?????? Thanks folks

Anyone oop North started planting yet ?

I'm new to veg growing in Glasgow, but have spuds chitting (1sts and main crop) and herbs and salad from seed, garlic in a bed.......have shallots and red onions waiting to go and was thinking of starting leek seeds on the windowsill this week......then I want to do carrots, parsnips, tomatoes, chillies and corn when its a bit hotter.....almost all in containers, see what happens....

Hi Bob, I bought some 38cm diam plant pots so I'm going to put a couple of shallot sets in one and a couple of red onion sets in another...then I'm going to put some more of each in small pots ot modular trays, before planting these into the soil as you describe...you can only try...

Thanks Janapana, can I ask what you used for compost?.....I take it you growed them from seed....I have some South facing windowsills which my potatoes (chitting) and herbs are on just now, was thinking I could try them there then pot them up in April.. Too early? Thanks again
