Hi, wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to get rid of or control pearlwort? its driving me nuts and is a never ending battle, I hand weed as much as I can most weeks and have used weed burners where I can as was told this should destroy any seeds in the area, weed is still winning though!!!

Hi, wondering if anyone could tell me the name of a small flowering plant I was given last year, it has bloomed already about a month to 6 weeks ago but there are new flower stems ready to open again soon.

It very similar looking to a Gladioli in both its leaves and flowers (small red flowers), but it is much smaller (maybe 1ft to 1ft 6in) and grows in a clump, it is also winter hardy having grown in my Mother's garden for years now. Thanks

Thanks, checked under plant as you suggested and found a few slugs, would it be these that have eaten the flowers? Dont think it has finished flowering as there are still flowers on it but they have been eaten down to the base of the petals, there are also new flower buds on it

Hi, planted a beautiful fully flowering aubretia a few weeks ago and was looking lovely until a few days ago when I noticed  that the colour had all but dissappeared, upon checking it seems that something has eaten the flowers, what could this be?

Pear tree

Sorry Alina, I missed the second part of your other reply re. pollinators etc - the tree is supposed to be "self fertile"  it was printed on the label that you didnt need another tree to cross pollinate?? I originally planted it in the January of the year I bought it and it was basically just a bare twig so it wouldnt have benefitted from cross pollination in that year either, but it still produced fruit!! also in answer to another part of your reply, there were some morning frosts during the flowering period but I thought the tree/flowers were hardy?? Thanks again

I do water it during dryer spells but I have never fed it, what type of feed would you recommend? I have an apple tree about 20 ft from it which I planted 10-12 years ago and have never fed it either but it produces abundant fruit year after year, in my ignorance I thought, as with the apple tree, all I had to do with the pear tree was plant it, sit back and do little or nothing!! By the way thanks for taking the time to reply.

I am in Scotland and we have not had the really heavy rain so not waterlogged, it sits at the top of a slight slope in my lawn in an open area so gets plenty light but is also open to the wind, my soil is slightly acidic

flowers that change colouer

it is not uncommon for flowers grown for cut flowers to have there colours enhanced or changed by adding colouring compounds to water/feed whilst they are growing but when these are put in a vase with normal water the colour can eventually fade and leech out, sometimes the colour can actually be seen in the water in the vase after a few days
