Hi Liriodendron. Thank you for your information I will google the the site. the person who gave me them was giving up her allotment that is the reason they have dried out. what shall I do with them till Spring . I am making a new bed for them , but should I just put them in a spare bit of ground till then?
When can I create a new bed, have had about 20 dried roots given me, when do I plant them and any tips please
Thank you very much weather permitting that's my job for the weekend.

Thank you all very much. Dovefromabove, the article you recomended was very interesting. My only question is how long are the bees going to fly around the tree it's over a fortnight now.
Thank you very much I have learnt a lot about the bees flying round my tree
Please can you tell me what a Tree Bee looks like and what trees do they congregate on
I have bees flying round my Leyland Cyprus, bottom branches and to halfway up, they land and seem to walk on the ribs of the leaves then carry on flying around the tree, WHY? They are bumble bees.
Thanks everybody, we hav'nt any deer around here, our allotments have a perimeter fence and each one is fenced that lets out rabbits.we have since netted them as well, a neighbour mentioned pigeons?
