NNE facing and clay soil- help!

We definitely Re optimistic ....my gardening method is 'try it and see' a lot of my original plants came from my parents splitting plants from their gardening for me, even though their soil is very different they have thrived well here in some cases better . If I relied on should and shouldn't do from books I would never have tried.
Onwards with the trials and tribulations !

My lab ate a fat ball at my brothers garden , I don't trust her not to eat anything I could put out so sadly I leave the feeding of birds to neighbours on each side , I make sure the pond and birdbath are ice free though .

When are you travelling zoomer44 ? My other half heading south (stoke ) tomorrow can let you know how shap is. Brough and stainmore was closed and due more snow tonight and tomorrow.

Our bin men came today and recycling as they always manage whatever the depth of snow, non gritted roads and steep hills.

I have all colours as like the cottage garden feel, others that have done well here is osteopernum , Veronica I have purple and pale pink, oriental poppies , foxgloves. I have been pleasantly surprised what has done well, shrubs have taken a battering though , I did lose red robin .

Philippa2 I saved toilet roll and kitchen roll inners last yr and they worked brilliantly going off the advice they don't like their roots disturbed, I then planted whole tube into my pots , they flowered very well.
