Summer has arrived

Verdun, if you live in an area with severe winters then penstemon aren't hardy. I love them, but they usually die in winter. I can't keep cuttings easily in winter, GH isn't heated, no window sills in French houses, and house sitters kill them.

That looks a beautiful garden Mrs. Garden. Has anyone else been to any other NGS gardens?

MORNING FORKERS

Morning all. Going to the village fete. It starts with Mass in the village church then there is what the French call a "cocktail", little nibbly things with drinks. Used to be by the river, with fireworks in the evening but someone fell off a tree into the river and was quite badly hurt so now it's in the field next to the Mairie and the fireworks were last night. We missed them as we went to the concert in friend's garden.

Willowherb! Of course! That was the name I was having the mental blank about. Part of the trouble with being over 60 - oops, I mean 27. (To those who post on Morning or Evening Forkers).

Thank you everyone. Yes, John, they are Eremurus coming out. It was great to meet you too, Bev. Salino, I don't know the name, a friend gave me the cutting and she'd forgotten. I like the name Etoile Violette and it does look like that.

Been to a concert (piano) in a French friend's garden, followed by buffet dinner. She has a big old manor house and a typical French garden, lawn, trees, no flower beds. Big shame it rained. Her 6th time and the other years it was warm and sunny. Audience, around 150, wore warm clothes and macs and umbrellas.

This afternoon I podded 4 buckets of broad beans, picked by OH, while I listened to the evening's pianist on U tube. Thibaut Surugue - in case anyone wants to know. He was very good.

Garden has grown a lot while I've been away. Unfortunately so have the weeds and some plants, like delphiniums have outgrown their stakes.

They are weeds, I'm just having a mental blank as to name, I know them well! Do pull them up or they will set seed everywhere.

MORNING FORKERS

Morning all. I'm back from garden visiting, family seeing in England. Paris was a nightmare yesterday, French hols starting. Stuck in a traffic jam needing a wee, not fun!

Garden here is like a jungle. OH was shocked at the lawns, out mowing last night. How do weeds grow so big in 2 weeks? Delphiniums and tomatoes needed tying up, did it before I went but the delphs has grown about 2 more feet. Broad beans getting too big already, loads of mangetout peas, I'll have to throw some away, too big.
