Really enjoyed Foyle's War.

Very busy day today. 20 guests for Easter lunch in aid of Cancer Support. 22 to cook for (me & OH too). Went very well then I made rissoles with the left over lamb, so busy for ages then watched TV. Tired.

When I said Monty's garden looked expensive I didn't mean he shouldn't have it or he doesn't work for it. I couldn't afford it, but we can adapt bits of it to suit our own needs.  3 or 4 raised beds using something like scaffolding planks could be within reach. I was just stating a fact. I like all the presenters and I enjoy their enthusiasm, but I don't have to share their tastes in gardens.

Wish it wasn't now the clocks are changing, have to get up extra early to deal with lunch for 22 before going to Church. Done 2 different first courses and the pudding, prepared potatoes, started gravy, washed floor, dusted dining room, cleaned 2 loos. Bedtime. Goodnight all.

I always enjoy GW. I like Carol Klein's enthusiasm and I enjoyed the Bosvigo bit as I went there in July 2011 so it had a different feel than the springtime feel. More lawn, beds, flowers, the woodland was over. I like Joe, but I don't like his designs, too many straight lines and contemporary, and I don't like his choice of plants, too green, too many grasses (don't like grasses, either look dead or like weeds - gasp, horror, I hear you say). Monty's new veg garden is super, but looks very expensive - beyond the reach of ordinary mortals. Nigel was looking beautiful.

That's a mophead hydrangea. Here is a link about care and pruning.http://apps.rhs.org.uk/advicesearch/profile.aspx?pid=516

Morning all. Busy today, in the middle of making salmon paté, chicken liver paté and lemon cheesecake for the lunch for 22 people I'm doing tomorrow in aid of cancer support. But the sore throat, achy joints and gritty eyes have turned into a cold. Bother. (I always feel like writing "said Pooh" after that). Hope I don't infect everyone. Too late to cancel now.

Car drivers are dangerous for cyclists too. My daughter (when she was a student) was riding her bike past a row of parked cars when suddenly some idiot opened his car door right into her. She fell off the bike of course and was covered in bruises.

Cairnsie, the winters can be pretty cold here, but when spring starts it starts getting warmer than in England. It's been about 16° for the last week, although it's rained a couple of days. Frosts are usually over 2nd half of April, but it's not unknown to have a frost in May. We had a severe one -4° followed by rain for 2 weeks last year so no insects so no plums, cherries or apples.

I usually buy petunias as plug plants. Are they French marigolds? They will need warmth and light in the day to help them grow and they mustn't get frosted. My greenhouse has been down to 2 or 3° at night and they've been OK.

More plants needed

There are some lovely perennial geraniums in pinks and purples that are good and filling in gaps.

I'd rather stay in the warm, kitchen sounds a good idea.
