Grow lighting

Posted: 02/07/2015 at 20:46

i just use the energy saving bulbs I have a couple 6500k colour temperature and 2700k and have grown all sorts early. It works although I am not sure if it is cost effective or not and some plants don't like the extra heat etc from the bulbs/light.  I just use those cheap clip on lamp holders you can get from poundstretcher etc

Water Retaining Crystals

Posted: 22/06/2015 at 15:04

I didn't realise this I have added these crystals to my pots and hanging baskets this year as I work shifts and cant always water them. I wish I hadn't now. I assumed it just break down into something harmless.

No they don't not in my experience anyway but you can easy take cuttings as most aren't fully hardy and will probably not survive the winter although mine did this year.

Candytuft or weed

They do and they smell like candytuft flowers. Weird. At least I didn't pull them even if they are not candytuft I think they will look decent when in flower.

They are starting to flower now any clues as to what they are. Flowers do look similar to candytuft and have a weak sweet fragrance.

Rose help needed

Posted: 10/06/2015 at 20:51

They are aphids on the flower bud. Either blast them off with water or use a washing up liquid and water mix and spray it on the plant or you can just slosh some in a glass and put the foam on the aphids. The marks on the leaves are black spot.

Cut power cable repair?

Posted: 09/06/2015 at 20:57

I would see if you can get a full replacement cord from a spares site and take it to bits and replace it. The only way I can think to repair the cord is to use domino blocks or solder the wires together but even if you tape them it wont be water proof and would be dangerous on a outdoor appliance where the grass its trailing on may be damp etc and the cord is liable to get tugged. If its cut near the plug or still has reasonable length you could just reattach the plug to where its cut.

Morning glory trouble

minimum night time temperatures are meant to be 10 degrees for morning glory. I have never been successful growing them. I think they would do well in greenhouse conservatory.
