Nastursiums

I grow them in pots they will seed everywhere but easy to pull out. They grow well in pots. Main problem i had was slugs killing the seedlings and aphids.

montana clematis are quick growing i would pot them into bigger pots harden them off then put in a cold frame or unheated greenhouse. Then after your last frost put the montannas in the ground. Then next year about february trim them down to 30cm. After that trim montanna clematis only need pruning to keep in bounds. Dorothy walton will probably be slower growing and will need to be cut back to 30cm every year.

Antirrhinums

Last year i did a test of what would and wouldnt survive in a cold greenhouse and from about mid march my antirrhinum seedlings were in a cold greenhouse and survived fine. Cant remember if it was particular mild or not. I live in the northeast but am about 2 miles from the coast so im unsure if that keeps it a little milder. Most of my antirrhinum plants did survive last winter also to flower another season.

Black spot on rose leaves - help how do I rid?

I used a bit dish soap and sodium bicarb last year and seemed to have a good effect. Nice and cheap. Have to spray regularly after rain and every week etc but is a good preventative treatment.

I normally just grow them from seed. You can literally sprinkle them on the soil and they pop up. They often self seed themselves.

Its just an unheated clear box with lid. Basically a small unheated greenhouse. I would just pot them up and place them in a sheltered corner against a wall or something or wait a little while till the ground unfreezes and plant them directly as they dont like root disturbance.

They will be bare root plants. Do you have a cold frame as they will be best grown in a cool conditions. Either plant them where they are to grow or pot them up and put them in sheltered corner in your garden.

Help with hebes

Posted: 21/02/2015 at 16:47

I have lots of dwarf ones and to be honest i do minimal maintainence on them. They seem really hardy and evergreen although some of my hebes change colour to a sort of pinky purple colour over winter so add a bit of interest over winter.

Cold Frame growing

You can do i have started hardy annuals off in a cold frame such as cornflower sweet peas godietia etc. They will germinate a few feeks earlier than direct sown ones and i suppose you could just sow direct into the ground. Watch out for slugs though.
