Ladybird larva and bug houses.

Posted: 08/05/2014 at 18:25

I am having a particularly bad time with aphids and was wandering if there was a way to increase the ladybird population in my garden. Is there a cheap way to raise larva and do bug houses I have seen in supermarkets do any good. The sets for larva are £25 on ebay is there any cheaper than this.

What have Thompson and Morgan sent me?

They are reasonably easy to grow from seed the one in the photo was started from seed last year.

Aphids particularly bad this year?

They are very persistent and keep coming back i'm already onto my 3rd spraying of my plants at the minute but the spray is definitely killing them but more seem to return. Think I might have to mix a big vat David's industrial strength recipe to see them off finally

Any ideas of shrubs or climbing vines that I can either train up a fence or plant a against a fence that I can either keep trimming to keep thin or will grow against a fence. I'm reluctant to plant ivy as it can damage the fence and become invasive.
