SNOW!

Lyn, are you a sadist?  The weather in the North of England is shockingly, depressingly freezing...

I am feeling a bit disheartened, plant lovers! We moved to the house we live in now because of its good sized garden. We moved in the late 1990s and I can honestly say the appalling weather has stopped us gardening again and again! How can we fulfil the desire to garden when the weather is SO poor? How do the rest of you gardeners get your "fix"?

Thank you, Lyn. The ones I had were behind large hebes and didn't flourish at the base- will trimming their tops still do the job?

How do I encourage hedging to stay thick at the base? I'm thinking of laurels particularly.

Seem to have had a disaster with photinia which I bought to use as a hedging plant but it's too airy and wants to be a tree, I think!

Might get some screening and start from scratch!!!

That's the spirit! I do try to place plants in the optimum position but sometimes there are difficult positions to fill, Answer: pop in a plant I like

I like the cottage garden feel too and have some of the plants you mention. Shrubs do well, despite the winds we get (on top of a moor). We're an optimistic lot, we gardeners, aren't we?

Thanks again!

Thanks for all of your advice! Have you any white, purple, blue, orange flowering plants?
