Deer resistant !

Posted: 10/05/2016 at 23:23

They leave hydrangea macrophylla (? Spelling) alone, but eat the paniculata or arborescens types.

Pieris are ok too, as is the viburnum plicatum mariesii.

For flowers, alliums are fine, so are peonies, oriental poppies, euphorbia, lupins, the half hardy rudbeckias (something like rustic dwarves), echinops, buddleja, lavender and most herbs.

....as you can see, I have been gardening with deer for a while.  Its a bit of a challenge, but definitely possible.  I spend a lot of time peering over neighbours fences to see what they are getting away with too.

Roses and tulips are a massive no-no

I agree Emma - they look fine, but will need some strings going horizontally between the canes to help them scramble up.  When they start flowering remember to keep picking them - the more you pick, the more flowers you will get.  As soon as they set seed (which look like little pea pods) then the plant will stop producing flowers, but if you pick them, they will flower all summer.

I'll look for David's thread now, and see if I can bump it up
