Lily - can't help on Dogwood, but it was me with the potted acer tips, which go like this ......

apparently acer roots like to touch the edge of their pots, so if you pot up more than a size at a time they put so much effort into growing roots to reach the edge of the new pot that they often expire in the process.  So the nursery lady gave me instructions about moving from 2 litre, to 3 litre, to 5 litre to 7 litre - and in year 4 you can release them into the ground.  Any repotting should be done before July, for the same reason - so they have plenty of time to grow said roots.  So far, I am slavishly following her instructions, and have a set of very healthy acers.

Off for my tea now - will pop back later for a catch up on all those lovely photos

Love all your plant pics Gardengirl - your raised beds look great, and so do your pots. Will any of the WW plants make it to the station?

So misty here cannot see across the garden.  Still, good weather for growing - which is what everything is visibly doing.

I want a hedgehog !!  (Said in Violet Beauregard fashion - a highbrow literary reference to keep Forkers on their toes)

Lizzie - glad you enjoyed your trip - rotten about catching a cold to spoil it a bit.  I was in Windsor on Friday too, and the rain was biblical

Lovely again Lizzie - you are so far ahead of us in terms of flowering - you have whetted my appetite for my snowball tree.  Hope you enjoyed your trip to the motherland

Great pics everyone - keep them coming ..... I just love seeing people's plants and gardens

Smiling at the thought of Wintersong hovering above her nice clean paths, like some cartoon character with special powers

Glad the sale went well Woody - plenty of pennies for the hortsoc coffers. I hear Ggirl did her bit for the cause!

Sounds like a productive day in the garden for some - very rainy here, so didn't matter that I was at work.  Car broke down this morning - minidrama - but nice man from the RAC came and fixed it, so I was soon on my way.

What colour hanging thingy did you get in the end Fidget?

Morning all, and happy birthday to OL.

One (or 3) of the things i planted yesterday was stipa tenuissima - hope it isn't invasive.  But it is lovely - short and wavy - like a bad hair day.  Looking at the state of my locks I can see why that comparison came to mind. Better go wash and dry it into submission .....

Have a grudging admiration for the deer, that neatly munch everything in sight

OL - did the 48 "free" lavenders last year (and the year before)- they are small to start ( think "48 perennials") but grow really quickly.  I will post photos of the 2012, and the 2013 ones later in the week (won't be home before dark tomorrow).

Weather for the week ahead, Brrr!!

Thanks for the heads up folks - will now know to check the forecasts towards the end of the week.  Would hate to lose things at this stage of the year.

A-ha - that's it!  I want imperial weekends

Got EVERYTHING planted, and then the heavens opened to water it all in.  Very pleased with myself.

Fantastic bluebell pics Dove.  Glad the bluetits have a customised des-res. Verdun's new border sounds fab (any chance of pics ??) And well done on de-spidering.  And happy birthday to Tracey 2moz ( got it right this time ).

And why do weekends go so fast ???
