I got home to find 3 bare root irises on the doorstep - do i go over to the GH at 6.30 tomorrow morning to sort them out (in pink fluffy dressing gown) , or can i keep them ticking over til the weekend ??

Answers on a postcard please ....(but not about the dressing gown - thats a non-negotiable)

Sowed seeds yesterday, and am now on daily germination watch. Think i might be in the early stages of this affliction. Many squeals when green shoots appear, plus have to drag all other family members against their will to have a look ..... Yet to elicit any squeals from them - heartless souls

We get loads in the house too - they like to overwinter in the cracks between the windows and their frames. I content myself with the fact they will be aphid munching soon - and at least they don't make cobwebs !!

You might be right Lizzie - they said auricula on the label, but they were the same price as polyanthus, so could be so. Am pleased with the way they look though - and if they are polyanthus i don't have a theatre, but a collection of old bricks with pots standing on them (!) - so i will carry on pretending
