Paper pots versus what?

Posted: 24/02/2013 at 16:10

I have just spent a happy hour making paper pots which I use to start off my seeds in the propagator. Once the plants are big enough I just pop the paper pot into a 3inch plastic pot for growing on. I just wondered what other folk use for starting off their seeds in a propagator?

1st ever greenhouse!

Posted: 24/02/2013 at 16:06

Congratulations Tilley - fun times ahead! This is just my third year of growing in a greenhouse and it is my pride and joy. I have been able to get decent tomato crops at last without the dreaded blight getting them. I also grow lots and lots of chillies  cucumbers and herbs and also start off all my other veg in there before planting out.

We prepared the base for our greenhouse ourselves but we had professionals erect it for us!

Thanks for the advice. I'll wait until it warms up and then do some pruning.

Euphorbia pruning

I have a euphorbia which has gone crazy. It's put out young plants (stolons?) everywhere and the 'parent' plane has flopped over. It's a mess! Can I cut it right back now and pull out the babies I don't want? Thanks

How to cover a slope with ivy cuttings

Hi DONS1979  - before you go! If are willing to dig up and plant ivy on your bank do you have any yellow deadnettle growing in your area?

Only ask because last year  I had a 2m X 4m strip of nothing, shaded strip, where I planted dug-up yellow deadnettle and in less than 12 months it has totally covered the area - (also put in a couple of bought lamium maculatum white nancy  to mix up the colorus)

Believe me it spreads very quickly - spent one happy hour last weekend shearing back along the gravel path it had grown into (easy) and with more effort required digging up the runners it had put out into my curranrt bed! Good luck whatever!, Janet
