Talkback: Know your potato types

Posted: 30/01/2014 at 21:29

I have just written on another forum, the variety called 'Jelly,', they are the best and tastiest I have ever had. We first had them from a well known  super market and last year  I looked them up only to learn that they weren't being produced for the open market... but today we have bought two bags of seed 'Jelly' potatoes from a large garden centre.. Yeh!!

Are French Marigolds still in 'Vogue'?

I love calendula, they grow everywhere and fill spaces in the summer.. what amazes me is seeing them in pots in posh garden centres for an exorbitant price.. when I pull up self seeded plants that are growing too close together! I might try French marigolds this year with my runner beans to keep off green fly, like my aunt did for years.

Chitting potatoes- have I got this right?

We have bought our seed pots today and they are 'Jelly' A variety we haven't been able to buy before, but have had them to eat  from a well know super market. These are most tastiest pots I have ever had. Can't wait to get them growing... but the rain oh the rain!!!

Talkback: Growing nasturtiums

Posted: 30/01/2014 at 20:59
When we moved back into our house that had been leased for 4 years, it was too late to do much to the garden except, weed, weed and weed... so I popped in some nasturtiums seeds and wow they were so pretty and certainly good value as they self seeded and now three years later still grow all over the place.

Physalis Little Lanterns

I have grown Physalis in the green house and the fruit were small but sweet. Last year  I decided to give them a miss as they took up a lot of room in my small green house. However the plants I had thrown out seeded and with the very hot summer we had last year (2013) they grew beside the compost box and fruited too!
