Clematis montana to cover a 5' high fence

HI

Thanks for the great info, I think I will try and lift a flag, there is a small bed on the side I could use that and train it onto the wall.

Clematis montana to cover a 5' high fence

Hope you guys don't mind me jumping in, but I have a very large bare wall at the bottom of my garden.  We had the area flagged but would like to have wooden planters, could I grow Montana in a container, I would like it at least to spread up the wall and fence a good way, the wall must be at least 8ft.  In the winter does it stay green, if not I can plant another container with a evergreen.

Would appreciate some advice.

Fig tree and Canary Palm

Posted: 09/05/2013 at 05:47

Hi

I have a fig tree and Canarian Palm tree which I bought last year and left them outside over winter, I know it may not  have been a good idea .

I recently  cut my fig tree down by a third because it was spindly and put the bits in the same pot which looks as if they have small buds coming.  The Canary Palm when bought was a larger one, it looks very sad and most of the leaves went dry and yellow.  So decided to cut off the sad leave and hoped I would see some growth.  Thankfully, there is signs of growth, anyway to cut the the chase, what do I feed these 2 plants on for the coming season.  Next winter I will maks sure I wrap my Palm up so keep it warm.  regards Chris 9

Hi

Thanks for the quick response and great advice.

The fruit is over a pea size and it is in a pot.  But it is a bit thin and and spindly and just had a thought  as you mentioned before in another of my post Chris2 I will cut a third off early spring to thicken it up, so the fruit will be lost next spring anyway.  The weeds in the lawn are very small so will leave till next spring.

Thanks again.

Fig tree

Hi

Now the weather is getting colder at night should I wrap up my fig tree. I have about 4 figs growing do I keep these, they are bigger than a pea, is that correct, or should I take off the larger ones and keep the smaller than pea figs, very confusing for a newbie.

I see on the website not to feed my new lawn, I see a couple of weeds poking through but as wrote on another thread I will take them out next spring.

Gracie, what a fabulous photo.

Jatnikapyer, behave never I'm glad that me had Break 23 put a smile on your face, that's what was intended.  All the gardens are fabulous and I wish I had green fingers like everyone has on this site, I love looking at all the photos.  Well never too old to learn.

Hi Once you use the website again it will save it for the next time and so will get quicker again.  They are very confusing computer's, I clean mine regularly and also have Spybot to help keep it clean.  I know there was a bug the last couple of weeks on this website, I wasn't receiving emails responses for the threads but last week received them all at once.  Hope you get some luck with the photos.

What a great display and all that hard work and pride taken, but in the same frame of mind as Gardeningfantic, I'd rather watch MD and his blight riddend toms.  Sorry to sway off the thread but do Dahlias encourage bees and butterflies not sure if I read it somewhere.
