Elephants ears - i just love them

Posted: 13/07/2012 at 17:23

I have a large" Elephants ears" in a huge pot. The leaves are huge - i just love them. And what with all the rain weve had they are looking good enough to eat. lol Only kidding.

Im not sure of their proper name - buts its easier to call them elephants ears.

The only thing is in the centre of the plant are tiny black fly. I read washing them with soapy water will get rid of these creatures. Has anyone any tips for me? I dont want to use spray of kill them in washing up liquid either. I wondered how soapy the mix should be?

Thank you.

I have one that is in a windy position and its doing a" side walk" kind of thing. I will trim it in the autumn - when do you recommend as autumn is a long season?

In spring would anymore really need pruning off?

Thanks for the link and advice.

I wasnt sure how many types their were and what their different names were. I have a white one and three mauve onest - two of which are miniture.

Would you recommend cutting back all buddleias in spring - even waist height ones?

I wonder who lives within it - the local cats. It looks a super place for a hideout.

I will google the name and see what comes up.
