Brilliant Q & A's thanks to you all. Having neglected my hellebores for a few years I'm suprised that they have given such a good show. Just re-potting last years plantlets and expecting more to pass on to our gardening group.
Thanks, it seems drastic - but can see the logic in getting the stems. Should get a flower this year so will know which type for sure.
My container clamatis, named 'Aldi' (due to lost label), is slow growing but thriving on bonemeal - this used because I didn't mulch the pot and not pruned yet . Twined around a wigwam of sticks it appears to be about a metre in length - I have great hopes for it.
Cairnsie, many thanks for those recommendations as I'm thinking of the deeper colours. The montanas sound right for the screening I need. Also considering an evergreen 'Cirrhosa Ourikavalla' again to give some winter colour/cover to the fence.
Thanks Verdun for the timely advice re preparation before planting. I'm fortunate to have the space to dig deep. Would appreciate any suggestions for the front of the border - thanks.
Clearing a border for clematis, against a fence, south facing, need colour also screen for the fence line.
browsing for all types - thanks for these good tips. heres to a happy clematis season!
