Veg trig

Posted: 17/11/2013 at 07:02

I was successful this season with growing young salad veg in a new veg trig. I have now discovered vine weevil in the compost. Will they die over winter and not return or will I need to get rid of all the compost and get new compost.  If I get rid of the compost should I take it to the tip and not use it anywhere else?.

Hi,

anyone know why I have tiny flys in the compost of some plants I am keeping over winter in my house? When I water you can see them wriggle and take to the air !!!

I have just received my bulbs and wonder why I can't plant tulips now with the others and why I should wait until October to plant them .

TA nothing else has been eaten and I grew the lettuce from seed. The leaves have been left but roots all gone.  I never bother growing cyclamen because they always get eaten but none of my other veg in my main veg plot have had the same issue. They are nasty little things Do they have a purpose other than to eat my grub.

I have grown some agapanthus from seed in a nice terracotta pot which is about 3 years old.......when will I get flower spikes and is there something I should do to encourage it to flower. It seems a long waiting game !

I have just cleared a space in my veg patch where my broad beans and peas were. I unfortunately have not grown anything from seed to put in the space for winter. can you suggest what I can put in the space to feed me over winter and is it too late to raise anything to grow from seed?
