I forgot to say keep it sheltered at night in the big pot whilst it grows.

Honeysuckle from Morissons

Posted: 18/04/2014 at 00:37

I have bought two honeysuckles and about 5 clematis from Morrison's. I imagine that they will be ok outside. Mine have been in for weeks but if you are worried pot it into a larger pot then plant out in late May. But for two quid I suppose you could risk it.

plant swap

Posted: 17/04/2014 at 21:25

Seeing as it is the time for lifting, dividing, propagating and sowing this seems an ideal time to see if anybody wants to swap plants.

I live near chester in the north west, if anybody is interested post below, let's see if we can match anyone up.

when do i take root cuttings of Japanese anemones?

Posted: 17/04/2014 at 14:05

Don't worry lavande(r) it isn't knotweed I am interested in.

I think I will take your advice gingly, let them get bigger with more established roots and whilst it's warm take some cuttings.

I have done this in winter with sea holly and acanthus with limited success. The warmth might help?

I will try that link later Dave when the kids are in bed. Got to plant some asters that I pinched from the in-laws before they dry out

I have a few you young plants in 2 litre pots. When should I take cuttings? Autumn, whilst it is warm or when it's dormant(if we have a winter this year!)?

what are you propagating?

I would like to propagate my new Japanese anemones from root cuttings,is it best in spring with an established plant,or should I wait til late summer/autumn?

Osteospermum problem

Posted: 14/04/2014 at 23:41

I take it your osteospurmum is a ground covering hardy type? Mine is spreading quite a bit,I have trimmed some of it back already. I wasn't shy. And it is ok. I would do it when it isn't too hot. Try not to cut too much of the old woody bit.

i don't need to sound silly but...

I think it's pheasant tail grass. So I imagine clumps here and there would look good?

I don't like thinning as I don't want to get rid of any plants.

I am new to ornamental grass so this year hopefully I will learn a lot.

I can't remember what grass it is off the top of my head. It does look like I have some work cut out tomorrow. I think I will put some in small pots, some in a clump in big pots and then dot some around the garden.

Cheers,I feel less silly now.

I am used to flower seedlings with their true leaves, not ornamental grass seedlings,so during germination when do I prick out?

Do these look ok to prick out?
